TERRAIN AWARENESS
Expert Workmanship, Competetive Pricing, Guaranteed Satisfaction
| Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) is one of the leading causes
of General Aviation fatalities. According to the NTSB, nearly 30% of
all U.S. general aviation accidents over the last 10 years were the
result of CFIT. Incorporating much of the technology found in Honeywell’s
EGPWS for air transport aircraft, the Bendix/King KGP 560 GA-EGPWS
was developed specifically to protect light turbine and piston aircraft.
The system incorporates GPS position and a terrain/obstacle database
to give you a clear picture of the terrain ahead of and below your aircraft,
anywhere in the world. Offering a unique combination of look-ahead algorithms
and multi-level alerting capability, the GA-EGPWS provides enhanced
situational awareness and the most advanced protection available against

Garmin has received FAA certification to add TSO C151b Class-B Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) functionality to the GNS 530 and GPS 500. The addition of TAWS enables the GNS 530 and GPS 500 to graphically display the surrounding terrain and obstacles in bright yellow and red, relative to the aircraft’s current altitude. Working in tandem with the aircraft’s audio system, the TAWS-certified GNS 530 and GPS 500 provide audible cautions and warnings to alert the pilot of a possible terrain and obstacle conflict. Audible and graphical alerts include forward-looking terrain avoidance, imminent terrain impact, premature descent during approach, altitude loss after takeoff, 500-foot callout and excessive rate of descent.

The Sandel ST3400 TAWS/RMI represents a true breakthrough in TAWS technology. It is the industry’s first self-contained Class A or Class B system that includes an integrated full-color, multi-screen, edge-to-edge display with a built-in RMI function. Because the ST3400 is a self-contained TAWS system that replaces an existing RMI, the ST3400 does not demand the installation facility associated with other TAWS equipment. This means a substantial cost savings on the installation and less downtime for the aircraft.
